MOFA and British Embassy jointly organize workshop

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar and the British Embassy in Yangon jointly organized a “Workshop on Striking a Right Balance between Freedom of Expression and Hate Speech” at Grand Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 17 August 2017. U Kyaw Moe Tun, Director-General, International Organizations and Economic Department from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. David Hall, Charge’ d’ Affaire a.i. of British Embassy in Yangon delivered their opening remarks.
About thirty participants from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of State Counsellor’s Office, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Union Attorney General’s Office, Pyithu Hluttaw, Amyotha Hluttaw and Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, and invited experts attended the workshop.
At the event, the experts presented international norms and standards in exercising freedom of expression, preventing hate speech and countries good practices and domestic legislation in this regard and the participants took part actively in the discussion.
