The Ministry of Health announced on 5 November that the Asia Shwe Kyel brand medicine, an anti-rheumatic medicine, should not be used due to the fact that it is mixed with western medicines and unmentioned ingredients.
It is reported that the Ministry of Health is continuously and systematically checking traditional medicines that are of good quality, safe and beneficial for the public to use. Upon inspection, another medicine found on the market, which is arthritis medicine, did not mention the original address. Traditional medicine registration number of other medicine TMR number is used.
The medicine is “Asia Shwe Kyel” brand arthritis medicine, and it is Paracetamol, which is mixed with powdered medicine. As a side effect, this drug may cause damage to liver and kidney.
Businesses that manufacture and distribute traditional medicines and pharmacies that sell medicines are not to sell traditional medicines not registered at the Department of Traditional Medicine, fake medicine, non-standard traditional medicines, and distribute traditional medicines declared unfit for public use. If they do not comply, they will be prosecuted under Sections 31 and 32 of the Traditional Medicines Law.—TWA/GNLM
