The Ministry of Industry held a knowledge-sharing ceremony on ginger cultivation tips yesterday afternoon, and Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than, in his capacity as the Chairman of the SMEs Development Committee, addressed the ceremony.
Deputy Minister U Ko Ko Lwin, the Director-General of the Department of Industrial Supervision and Inspection, experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and the Ministry of Science and Technology, business persons from SMEs, ginger growers from Shan State and officials from the Ministry of Industry also attended the ceremony from respective areas.
At the ceremony, Union Minister Dr Charlie Than said if ginger-based medicines could be produced with high quality and value, they would gain success not only in the domestic market but also in the foreign market, and he believes that farmers can be able to successfully implement ginger cultivation in Myanmar by applying the discussions of agronomists, market experts and high-quality producers.
He said encouraging the cultivation of ginger will help local SMEs generate more revenue and improve socio-economic life, adding the State’s economic objectives are also to develop the agricultural-based production with modern methods and to support local businesses, and to create job opportunities to produce more of the state’s products, as well as to improve the socio-economic life of individual farmers.
He invited the farmers to openly discuss the discussions of the experts. Afterwards, U Nyi Nyi Aung from the Department of Agriculture discussed the tips on ginger cultivation. The Secretary-General of the Myanmar Food Producers and Exporters Association discussed the production, sales and markets of export ginger or ginger. Dr Thazin Han from the Department of Research and Innovation discussed value-added products of ginger and production processes. After the discussion, Director-General U Thein Swe of the Department of Industrial Supervision and Inspection added the issues that the department can support on SME entrepreneurs’ discussions, and the Union Minister made the concluding remarks. —MNA
