The ASEAN Special Online Workshop on Fake News was held on 23 July and the experts from UNESCO and the European Union to ASEAN, as well as the relevant persons from information sector of the
ASEAN, attended the virtual meeting.
The 12 staff officers from MRTV, IPRD and NPE Departments under the Ministry of Information joined the online workshop from Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon.
The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communications of Viet Nam to address broadcasts of false news, fake news and misinformation, convention and directives on fake news, cooperation of member countries to prevent fake news and development of international reviews.
During the first section of meeting, the attendees presented law and rules of respective countries, activities of ASEAN member countries regarding the cooperation works and reviews in combatting fake news while the Singaporean representative of Information Division under the Ministry of Communications and Information discussed Singapore’s preventive measures against the fake news.
The representatives of UNESCO and EU also explained international practices in reduction and prevention of fake news.
In the second section, the ASEAN Secretary-General’s Office discussed decisions and plans in previous editions of the meeting.—MNA (Translated by Khine Thazin Han)
