MoI Union Minister meets with publishers in Yangon

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn met with printers and publishers at the Department of Printing and Publishing in Botahtaung Township in Yangon yesterday afternoon.
During the meeting, the Union Minister said it is necessary to take care of the writings seriously since the publications will remain as records in the future. He called on the attendees to act in accordance with the respective rules, regulations and code of conduct.
The publishers of the recently published pornographic book were unavoidably prosecuted in accordance with the law, he continued.
Such a lawsuit is not a restriction on the right to freedom of expression, but due to the violation of the provisions of the Printing and Publishing Law, which must be strictly enforced in accordance with the relevant law, he said.
The Union Minister said, “In other words, I want to say that we are systematically monitoring writings that are unacceptable in the Myanmar society.” He also spoke about the unscrupulous people who are obstructing the media in various ways, which aim to spread true information and to fight false news in the country.
He said efforts will be made in various ways to ensure the flow of true information to the people and fight against false information no matter how much the Ministry’s of Information’s media activities are obstructed, urging to work together to do the right thing for the future of the country.
Afterwards, the Director-General of the Information and Public Relations Department explained the supervision situation in accordance with the Printing and Publishing Law 2014, and Publishers and printers participated in the discussions.—MNA
