Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn inspected the preparations for a groundbreaking ceremony of the three-storey RC Sarso Beikman building in Mingala Taungnyunt Township of Yangon yesterday.
First, Project Director Daw Yu Yu Naing from Myanmar Land & Development Ltd reported on the construction site.
Then, the Union minister instructed to grow trees and plants in the Sarso Beikman compound, complete the display, the progress and ongoing stages model of the building structure for the groundbreaking ceremony, meet the international museum standards as the palm-leaf manuscripts and Parabaik will be placed, use quality construction materials, conduct proper negotiation as it is a national-level building as an India-Myanmar friendship symbol, and place statues of significant literary scholars of three eras, recipients of the National Lifetime Award for Literary Achievement and poets.
The Union minister also inspected the Sarso Beikman construction site and upgrading works on the former game city building into the Sarpay Beikman public library.
Sarso Beikman will be constructed on 2.18 acres of land plot in Mingala Taungnyunt Township as per the directives of the Head of State to collect books, photo records and statues of great intellectuals, hold educational talks and dialogues and also for public recreation, made on 24 September 2021.
The Printing and Publishing Department of the Ministry of Information led the construction project, and the Urban and Housing Development Department of the Ministry of Construction designed the building and estimated the cost.
Myanmar and India signed a Project Agreement for the Sarso Beikman construction project on 18 March 2024.
It will be a three-storey RC with 160 feet by 140 feet by 57 feet and eight inches and 52,128 square feet.
It is a two-year project, and the construction of Sarso Beikman will begin soon. — MNA/KTZH
