MoLIP discusses distribution of COVID-19 medical devices for 2020 General Election

Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population held a coordination meeting of Central Receiving and Distributing Committee on COVID-19 Medical Devices for 2020 General Election yesterday afternoon in Nay Pyi Taw.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Central Receiving and Distributing Committee on COVID-19 Medical Devices for 2020 General Election, the Deputy Ministers as members of the Committee, the Permanent Secretaries, officials from Nay Pyi Taw Council and the Ministers from the respective states and regions via virtual meeting (Zoom).
Union Minister U Thein Swe said the Committee has bought COVID-19 medical devices from China and is distributing to the respective states and regions in order to ensure that voters, polling station staff and volunteers have full physical and mental security and to vote in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Health and Sports. The imported COVID-19 medical devices arrived by a total of 114 flights from China to Myanmar between 17 October to 2 November. The Committee has been distributing them systematically according to the stay-at-home areas as the main priority.
The Union Minister expressed words of thanks to the departmental officials who successfully arranged flights to transport COVID-19 medical devices from China in a short period of time despite the limited number of international airlines. He added to return the surplus with statistics after the distribution to the relevant polling stations and to submit the expenses with required documents.
Afterwards, the Committee members and officials discussed the receipt and transport status of the medical devices at Yangon and Mandalay International Airports, difficulties in distributing to the relevant polling stations, cost calculation in returning the extra devices, the arrangement to send the devices in time to the polling stations before the election starts and the Union Minister coordinated the meeting.
For 2020 General Election on 8 November, the Government purchased 35 million of KN95 mask, 10 million of examination gloves PVC (Vinyl), 9 million of face shield, 2.5 million of surgical gowns, 2 million of surgical caps, 500,000 protective face masks, 500,000 PPEs, 500,000 goggles, 500,000 surgical gloves, 500,000 boots and 500,000 boots covers.
