Mon concludes political dialogue, pledges to build federal union

THE ethnic Mon people concluded their National-Level Political Dialogue in Ye, yesterday, pledging that they will participate in the establishment of a federal union based on democracy, equality and self-determination rights, and will follow the path of peaceful resolution to political problems through political means.
Following the third-day session and the closing ceremony of the political dialogue, they released a statement.
The statement said the basic principles in the political, economic, social, and land and environment sectors were discussed according to the framework set up by the UPDJC, and agreements and disagreements were collected through sector wise discussions.
The representatives of Mon attending the National-Level Political Dialogue for the ethnic Mon people discussed openly and freely the political, economic, social, and land and environment sectors to establish a federal union., said the statement.
In the morning, a collection of the two-day sector wise discussions and views of the representatives on the political, economic, social, and land and environment sectors were distributed to the representatives by the leaders, and additional suggestions and comments were sought from the representatives. In the afternoon, sector wise opinion papers were read by the leaders and submitted to the chairpersons of the meetings.
A closing ceremony of the National-Level Political Dialogue for the ethnic Mon people was then held, where the approved sector wise papers obtained from the dialogue were presented to Mon State National-level Political Dialogue management committee by Organising Committee Chairman Nai Banyar Lae. Management Committee Secretary (Mon) State Minister for Pa-O Ethnic Affairs Nan San Wint Khaing accepted the papers and delivered a speech of thanks. Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) secretariat member U Aung Soe then explained the conducting of the national-level political dialogue for ethnic people, followed by Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan and Nai Banyar Lae delivering speeches of appreciation. The ceremony came to a close with the singing of the Mon national song by all attendees after New Mon State Party Chairman Nai Htaw Mon delivered a closing remark.
The three-day National-Level Political Dialogue for the ethnic Mon people held from 5 to 7 May was organised by the New Mon State Party, All Mon Region Democracy Party and the Mon National Party. The closing ceremony was attended by Mon Sayadaw and sanghas, officials from National Reconciliation and Peace Centre, Peace Commission and UPDJC, Mon State Chief Minister and members of the state government, Taninthayi Region Chief Minister Dr. Daw Lei Lei Maw and members of the region government, members of the Mon State National-Level Political Dialogue management committee, representatives of the ethnic armed organisations, political parties, Mon people and Mon regions-based organisations, Mon women, youth and other learned persons and invited guests. — State (IPRD)
