Mon State receives 90,000 COVID-19 vaccinations

About 90,000 people from Mon State are being vaccinated against COVID-19 starting from 28 July.
Those COVID-19 vaccines were donated by China and the vaccines are being administered to the elders from “Home for the Aged” in Mawlamyine town starting from 28 July, said an official from the State Health Department.
He also added that about 90,000 COVID-19 vaccines are being provided in Mon State. The current vaccination programme will give priority to those aged 65 and above and employees.
Under the government’s vaccination plan, the priority groups will be health care staff, private healthcare staff, volunteers, Sangha, nuns, religious buildings and religious staff, civil staff and bank employees.
In addition, private factory workers, hotel and hostel staff, prisoners, staff from the transport industry and supermarket’s employees will also be given priority for the vaccination.
“We have received vaccine quotas for 9,500 people from Thanbyuzayat township. Beginning from 29 July, those over the age of 65 are being started vaccinating. The vaccination is being provided in three locations: Thanbyuzayat town, Kyaikkhami town and Kyaikkadat village,” said an official from Thanbyuzayat.
Around 1.75 million people have so far been vaccinated in the country of 54 million, according to authorities.
Myanmar reported 294,460 COVID-19 cases with 8,942 deaths since the first cases were reported in March last year. — ACM/GNLM
