Monks, locals protest to protect Mandalay’s cultural heritage

To protect the capital of Mandalay Region and its cultural heritage, monks and patriotic locals staged a peaceful demonstration at the foot of Mandalay Hill in Aungmyaythazan Township on the afternoon of 29 August.
During the demonstration, monks and residents from Mandalay City and surrounding areas gathered at the base of Mandalay Hill and marched in an orderly fashion. They held peaceful protests, displaying posters and placards while chanting slogans such as “Let’s protect the cultural heritage of our Mandalay”, “Let’s unite to prevent the destruction of Mandalay”, “Let’s safeguard Mandalay’s rich history for future generations”, “Let’s unite to combat terrorism”, “Unity among ethnic groups is our cause”, “Stability and peace in Mandalay are our priorities”, “Conservation of cultural heritage is our mission”, and “Oppose all forms of violence”. — MNA/TKO
