The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement provided cash assistances for pregnant women and children under 2 years of age at the IDP camps in Kachin and Shan states yesterday.
In the first batch of provision under Shock Responsive Social Protection Programme, the ministry provided K 30,000 per one for a total of 1,402 vulnerable persons at 54 IDP camps in Kachin and Shan states. This is a one-time-support programme for the most vulnerable persons —pregnant women and children under 2 years of age — at IDP camps in Kachin and Shan states amid COVID-19 crisis.
With the Union budget, the ministry’s Social Welfare Department was supporting vulnerable persons at the IDP camps in Kachin and Shan states under the Maternal and Child Cash Transfer (MCCT) programme in cooperation with General Administration Department and World Food Program during COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the MCCT programme, the MoSWRR has been supporting vulnerable persons in Chin, Rakhine, Kayin and Kayah states, and Naga Self-Administered Zone since 2017-2018 FY. In addition, during the COVID-19 crisis, the ministry will provide extra supports for those vulnerable who aren’t the members of MCCT programme and living at the IDP camps in Chin, Rakhine, Kayin, Kachin and Shan states.—MNA (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
