MoSWRR Union Minister joins 11th AMMSWD Meeting, 7th AMMSWD+3

Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khine virtually participates in the 11th AMMSWD Meeting and the 7th AMMSWD plus 3 yesterday.

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine attended the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development and the 7th ASEAN Plus Three Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (11th AMMSWD Meeting and 7th AMMSWD+3) hosted by Malaysia via videoconferencing yesterday.
During the opening ceremony, Malaysian Minister for Women, Family and Community Development Ministry Dato Sri HaJah Nancy Shukri made an opening speech. The meeting was held under the Theme “Accelerating the Implementation of ASEAN Commitments for Gender Equality through Gender Mainstreaming and Social Inclusion”.
At the event, Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khine said Myanmar is implementing measures for goals including Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG Goals) to ensure gender equality and promote women empowerment.
She also talked about the formation of the Myanmar National Committee for Women Affairs, drafts of law, policies and directives, implementation of NSPAW (National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women) (2013-2022), NSPAW Phase II (2023-2032), cash assistance for pregnant women, kids under 2 and the people with disabilities, social pension, cooperation with ASEAN regarding rehabilitation processes in Mocha-hit areas in Rakhine State, sending of Psychosocial Support Team to these regions and the important role of social workers.
She then reaffirmed that Myanmar will host the 12th AMMSWD Meeting and the 8th AMMSWD+3 in 2025.
Moreover, the representatives of China, Japan and Korea and attendees discussed the cooperation work in social welfare development programmes of ASEAN countries.
Then, the Union minister highlighted the donations of China for Cyclone-hit regions, projects for women, children and youths in Mekong-Lancang development programmes and benefits of programmes to the socioeconomic development of Mekong-Lancang regions. – MNA/KTZH
