MoSWRR Union Minister meets UNHCR Resident Representative

Union Minister for Social Welfare Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine met Resident Representative Ms Noriko Takagi of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Myanmar yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.
Both sides exchanged views on the status of the UNHCR Resident Representative, the provision of solar lamps and other relief items for storm-hit people in Sittway, the MoU signing, the lessening of casualties and damage due to the government’s preparations before Cyclone Mocha, the establishment of the Disaster Management Centre-DMC on 8 May, the status of recovery efforts and transport of relief goods by Tatmadaw aircraft and naval vessels to Rakhine State, and arrangements to sell foodstuffs at reasonable prices in Rakhine State.
The meeting was attended by Permanent Secretary Dr Ko Ko Naing, the director-general and officials from the Department of Social Welfare. — MNA/TS
