MoTC delegation attends 8th GMS-CBTA Meeting

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications U Aung Myaing led a delegation to the Eighth Meeting of the Joint Committee on the Agreement to Facilitate Cross-Border Transport in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region in Haikou, Hainan Province. The meetings focused on enhancing trade among member countries and addressing key transport facilitation issues crucial for promoting tourism and investment.
During the pre-coordination meeting, the National Transportation Facilitation Committee discussed the Early Harvest MoU, emphasizing Myanmar’s participation. The deputy minister highlighted plans for a memorandum of understanding with Thailand for cross-border transport and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in implementing such activities in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region.
The meeting concluded with significant outcomes, including signing the basic sub-contract for route expansion by the People’s Republic of China, approving the CBTA Work Plan for 2024-2028, and releasing a joint statement. The event, hosted by member countries, sets the stage for future collaborations, with Laos hosting in 2024 and Myanmar in 2025. — MNA/KZW
