MR to build ten diesel locomotives this year

Myanma Railways (MR) will build ten diesel locomotives this year, according to a report in 13 February’s Myawady Daily.
The MR will build ten locomotive workshops in Nay Pyi Taw and Myintnge at the end of February. Locomotives will run on 2000- HP diesel engines and operate at speeds of up to 100 km (70 miles) per hour.
According to the upgrade project, launched in 2015, the MR will build 22 locomotives and 60 train coaches.
Currently, the MR is operating the Yangon-Mandalay-Pyay rail service with the use of 12 locomotive and 39 coaches.
“The building of locomotives included in this project will be completed this year. The MR will continue producing locomotives, if its receives necessary monetary assistance,” said U Aung Win, the General Manager of MR.
Nay Pyi Taw locomotive workshop has received equipment for five locomotives, with the remainder still to be delivered. The assembling of the locomotives can begin at the end of February.
