To improve the local rice industry, the authorities are planning to hold a multi-stakeholder forum this month in Nay Pyi Taw and have called for suggestions from those engaged in the supply chain, according to a report in Myawady Daily yesterday.
This forum aims to maintain the status quo in Myanmar’s rice industry and create a new scheme to ensure sustainable development.
The date for the forum is still under negotiation. Suggestions can be submitted to the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) by 9 February.
It is the first time that Myanmar will hold this kind of a forum. The forum will be titled “Rice Trade Development Forum,” but panel discussions will be held on the milling and agricultural sectors.
Officials from MRF will hold a forum to exchange ideas on policy suggestions with
the government to lay down plans for a three-year short-term plan for Myanmar’s rice sector.
This forum will include discussions on controlling the rice price; farmers’ problems; gaining appropriate profits for rice millers, rice merchants and exporters; and providing assistance by making policies for small and medium enterprises. Those who want to contribute ideas for discussions on these subjects can email MRF at [email protected] or call 01 218266-8/2301128-9.
