New locomotives which are bought by Myanma Railways (MR) from India will reach Thilawa port on 1st May (The Worker’s Day), according to Myanma Railways under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
“MR is fulfilling the need to improve railway transportation in Myanmar for the passengers to be able to travel more conveniently.  The new government has already bought five new locomotives for the first time from India. The new locomotives which will replace where necessary, will arrive on  May Day,” said U Zaw Lwin, divisional traffic manager of Division 7 of Myanma Railways.
The locomotives which are currently running are from Japan, India and China as well as Germany and French.
The new locomotives bought from India are not the reconditioned ones; they are the brand new ones recently manufactured in India. MR has bought the locomotives at a fair price. They are cheaper than the ones bought from China. The new coaches from China will also arrive in Myanmar very soon.—MMAL
