A total of 60 Myanmar seamen were brought to Kawthoung from Yangon by chartered flight yesterday morning. The Myanmar Seamen’s Federation will conduct crew change programme on 3 September for 60 Myanmar seamen outside the port area of Kawthoung Township under the supervisory of the officials of National-Level Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19 and relevant ministries.
“We served for Myanmar seamen like conducting health check-ups and issuing health certificates for crew change. We offer such service with the fund of federation in Dawbon Township. Our new headquarters building will be opened soon,” said U Soe Min Aung, chair of Myanmar Seamen’s Federation. The federation served for a total of 400 seamen under the crew change programme—200 seafarers who signed off their job from the ship and 200 seafarers who took duties to join the ship.
Another 10 ships will arrive at the port area of Kawthoung Township. The Ministry of Health and Sports and National Health Laboratory has issued health recommendation letters to more than 1,500 seamen certifying that they are free of COVID-19. The federation also discussed with the officials of Social Security Board to receive social security benefits for the family members of seamen including their pensions. —Pwint Thitsar (Translated by Khine Thazin Han)
