Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Dr. Win Myat Aye, opened remarks at the workshop for drafting a National Guideline for creating job opportunities for people living with disabilities (PLWDs), at Mingalar Thiri Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday
In his opening remarks, the Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye said the country is heading for socio-economic development and also developing aspects of the social welfare sector, including education, healthcare and social protection. He said his ministry is also cooperating with Asia Pacific Development Centre on Disability (APCD) and Shwe Min Thar Foundation (Myanmar) for elevating the livelihood and development of PLWDs.
Most of the international community has implemented their own National Guidelines for creating job opportunities for PLWDs, so Myanmar needs to plan it own guidelines for the rights of PLWDs, said the Union Minister. He said when the draft guideline is complete, it will be published in Myanmar, English and Japanese languages and distributed at the ASEAN Regional Forum 2019 to be held in Thailand. He said they are also implementing the ASEAN Hometown Improvement Project together with ASEAN member countries Cambodia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam, and in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Development Centre on Disability (APCD). He concluded by urging attendees to be actively involved in the discussions.
The workshop was attended by Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, departmental officials, and officials from APCD, Shwe Min Thar Foundation (Myanmar) and invited civil society organizations.
