Workers are painting the pillars with a lacquer gold coating.

According to Daw Mu Mu Swe, Assistant Director of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Mandalay Branch), maintenance work at Mandalay’s Myanansankyaw golden Palace is ongoing. Specifically, the pillars of the Myaynanpyathat Building and the Left and Right Reception Halls are under painting with gold lacquer, preserving traditional styles.
Daw Mu Mu Swe stated, “We are renovating and maintaining the pillars of the Myaynanpyathat Building and the Left and Right Reception Buildings in the Myanansankyaw Palace with gold lacquer painting, instead of ordinary gold paint, as directed by the Head of State during his visit to the palace in May. Experts in Myanmar cultural traditions provide the lacquer gold painting designs.”
A total of 108 pillars, previously painted with ordinary gold paint, are renovated with lacquer gold paint. Myanmar traditional handicrafts are applied to the large pillars using tree resin. – ASH/TMT
