Myanmar bags US$130+ mln from fish exports in Apr-Aug

Myanmar shipped over 124,700 tonnes of various fish worth US$137.73 million in the past five months of the current financial year 2024-2025 beginning 1 April, comprising over 65,600 tonnes ($88.6 million) through maritime trade and over 59,180 tonnes ($49 million) delivered at the border, the Fisheries Department’s statistics showed.
The figures rose from over 59,880 tonnes of fish worth $74.25 million recorded in the corresponding period last FY 2023-2024, indicating an increase of over 64,000 tonnes valued at $63.478 million.
Myanmar exports fishery products, including fish and shrimp, to more than 40 countries, including China, Thailand, Bangladesh and Japan. Some are directly shipped through Yangon, while some are delivered through land borders.
More than 20 fish species like hilsa, rohu, catfish, and seabass are delivered to foreign markets, according to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation. — NN/KK
