Myanmar, Bangladesh hold battalion commander-level meeting

The flag meeting of battalion commander level between Myanmar and Bangladesh border guards was held in Maungtaw Township, Rakhine State, yesterday morning.

The meeting was attended by seven members of the Myanmar delegation led by Police Lt-Col Zaw Lin Aung and the 11 members of the Bangladeshi delegation led by Lt-Col Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan.

The meeting focused on preventing illegal entry/exit across the border, educating the people in the border areas, exchange of information and cooperation in preventing border crossings and maintaining peace and stability in the border areas.

A total of 24 Bangladeshi nationals who have already been prosecuted in accordance with Myanmar’s domestic law were transferred systematically to Bangladesh in accordance with Article 7, Section 2 of the Myanmar-Bangladesh border cooperation agreement. Among them, 22 people were illegal immigrants, 1 illegal money changer and 1 illegal shipper. —MNA
