Myanmar celebrates World Maritime Day 2022

Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San addressed the World Maritime Day 2022 ceremony held at Myanma Port Authority (head office) in Kyauktada Township of Yangon Region yesterday.
Also present at the event were the Yangon Region chief minister, regional officials, heads of the affiliated departments, representatives of shipping companies, the Myanmar Seafarers Federation, port services companies, maritime institutes and the local shipowners’ association.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Union minister said the International Maritime Organization (IMO) holds the annual celebration in the member countries at the same time to ensure maritime safety, security and conservation activities. Myanmar also celebrates it today. The colourful light will be decorated at the marine and port facilities honouring that day. This year’s theme is New Technologies for Greener Shipping. The use of sustainable and green shipping creates new job opportunities and potential for all-round development. For such development, it needs the growth in technologies in addition to financial status and human resources. Therefore, international organizations and partner organizations should support in fundraising and capacity-building industry. There should be cooperation between developing countries by sharing the proper technologies. They should keep staying in touch for the future of sustainable and green shipping.
Then, the video message of IMO Secretary-General Mr Kitack Lim was displayed.
At noon, the Union minister and party went to Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (head office) in Botahtaung Township and departmental officials reported on their work procedures.
Then, the Union minister highlighted the need to maintain the proper level of MPT in the market, expand the Business to Business services by communicating with the SMEs, implement strategic projects and follow the policy for Sim Card registration, and he gave gifts to the staff.
The Union minister and party also inspected the work procedures of the Yangon General Post Office and gave presents to the employees.
On arrival at the Myanmar Maritime University, the Rector reported on the attendance of students during this academic year, school buildings, demonstration rooms, library and construction of sports stadiums.
The Union minister also talked about the cleanliness of school buildings, security and welfare of staff, arrangements for healthcare services, teaching aids assistance, lighting system in classroom and invitation of experts as part-time lecturers.
Then, the Union minister and party inspected the classrooms, university compus, Towing Test Tank practical session, library relocation, repair works on pavement and construction of the football stadium and basketball court. — MNA
