The Myanmar Embassy in Seoul has announced that Myanmar citizens in the Republic of Korea holding the Passport for Job (PJ) and Passport for Business (PB) will be required to pay income tax when extending their passports.
As per the amendment to the 2023 Union Tax Law, Myanmar citizens working abroad are obligated to pay taxes based on the lower tax amount calculated on salary income received in foreign currency, effective from 1 October, according to the statement.
Myanmar nationals working in Korea with employment passport types PJ and PB can settle their income tax for the corresponding work periods during passport renewal at the Myanmar Embassy.
The statement further notes that individuals who have extended their passports are eligible to commence income tax payments. — TWA/TKO
