Myanmar delegation joins seminar on Negative Effects of Corruption on Successful Implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals

Myanmar delegation led by Anti-Corruption Commission Chair Dr Htay Aung joined a seminar on “The Negative Effects of Corruption on the Successful Implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals” organized by the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) through a hybrid format on 6 March.
A total of 122 representatives including Anti-Corruption Experts in the respective fields and alumni who attended the Anti-Corruption Master Programme and training courses opened by IACA attended the event.
The meeting discussed the 17 goals of UN SDGs and 169 targets, the need for strong governments to implement that case which is public policy, various forms of corruption in the developed countries which are also obstacles to implementing the SDGs successfully and the need for resources.
Concerning the discussion of the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Myanmar on the situation where the implementation of the SDG goals may be convenient for developed countries but there may be obstacles for developing countries due to technical and human resources, Mr Jerrery D Sachs responded that better plans are drafted to implement the SDGs and it also needs allocation of the adequate fund, advice of experts and cooperation in respective sectors. — MNA/KTZH
