Myanmar focuses on challenges in solving drug problems between Myanmar and Bangladesh

Greater efforts must be made for conducting drug abuse control more than now as quality and cheap manmade narcotic drugs come out, said Police Brig-Gen Win Naing, Commander of the Drug Enforcement Division of the Myanmar Police Force as well as Joint Secretary of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control of Myanmar, at the 5th Myanmar-Bangladesh Virtual Bilateral Meeting on Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
The meeting in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday hosted by Myanmar focused on challenges in solving drug problems, seizures of drugs, further cooperation between Myanmar and Bangladesh, exchange of information, joint patrol measures, and the responsibility of Bangladesh to host to organize the 6th meeting.
On the other hand, the Police Brig-Gen continued to say that drug gangs taking advantage of technological improvement are trafficking narcotic drugs and precursor chemicals in various forms. Proceeds from drug trafficking are supplied to terror attacks, arms smuggling, and root causes of transnational crimes harming the peace and stability of the border regions, he said, adding all countries need to closely cooperate with each other in tackling the drug problems. He underscored that 39 kinds of precursor chemicals used in drug production will be restricted emphasizing abuse of the chemical precursors in Myanmar. The meeting was also virtually attended by Director-General Mr Md Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan of the Department of Narcotics Control and party of Bangladesh. — MNA
