Myanmar football clubs pull out of AFC tourneys

Two Myanmar football clubs – Shan United and Hantharwady United have withdrawn from Asian football tournaments, according to the Asian Football Confederation.
“Shan United FC has pulled out of the AFC Champions League, the continent’s top club competition, while Hantharwady United FC has withdrawn from the AFC Cup, the second-tier continental club tournament,” officials said.
After the Myanmar clubs out of the AFC epic tournaments, the football authorities have cancelled an AFC Champions League preliminary stage match between Shan United FC and Australia’s Melbourne City, which will now advance directly to a playoff against Cerezo Osaka from Japan.
With Hantharwady United FC out of playoff contention in the second-tier AFC Cup, the AFC authorities have also decided that Chanthabury FC of Laos and Brunei’s Kasuka FC will now compete for a direct slot in the Group G, according to the football authorities.
Shan United Football Club is a defending champion of the 2020 season of the Myanmar National League, while Hantharwady United Football Club is a first runner up team of the domestic football tourney. —GNLM
