
Taungpyo (Letwe), 8 June— Boat people already verified as Bangladesh nationals were handed over to Bangladesh officials at a flag raising meeting held in Taungpyo (Letwe) on Monday.
The boat people were rescued by Myanmar Navy at sea near Thinbawkway Village in Maungtaw District on 21 May.
Deputy Director U Saw Naing and officials of Maungtaw District Immigration and National Registration Department handed over the boat people to Colonel Md. Khalequzzaman of Border Guard Bangladesh, Cox’s Bazar.
The two sides are negotiating for handing over of the remaining boat people as soon as possible, according to sources.—MNA
