Myanmar-India border trade increases this FY

The border trade during the period increased by $105 million compared with the same period of the previous FY. During the same period last year, India-Myanmar bilateral trade was $91.55 million in total. 

Bilateral trade between Myanmar and India hit US$ 197 million as of 17 September in the current financial year 2020-2021 ending 30 September, said a statistical report of the Ministry of Commerce.
The border trade during the period increased by $105 million compared with the same period of the previous FY. During the same period last year, India-Myanmar bilateral trade was $91.55 million in total.
The Myanmar-India total border trade during the period was shared by Myanmar’s export of $195 million and its import of $1.77 million.
The two countries mainly carry out border trade through Tamu, Reed and Thantlang cross-border trade camps, while a major part of bilateral trade is delivered through ships.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, the total border trade volume from the Tamu border trading post in the 2020-2021 FY was $34 million with exports valued at $33 million and import $0.89 million. Total trade volume via the Reed border trade post in the same period was $163.4 million with exports valued at $162.5 million and imports $0.88 million.
Myanmar mainly exports to India fruits and vegetable, fishery and forestry products, while importing from India medicines, electronic products, motorbikes, cotton yarn, non-alloy steel and other construction materials. — Zwe/GNLM
