Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan who is also a chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee attended the 7th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports and related meetings held from 30 August to 2 September in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
In the keynote speech, Mr Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Sports and Tourism of the host country, Thailand, who is acting as the alternate chairman of ASEAN clarified the situation of the work to be carried out concerning the 7th ASEAN Sports Ministerial Meeting, previous meetings and other related meetings.
The representatives of the ASEAN member countries discussed the sports status plus issues related to prohibited drugs.
Delegates at the 6th SOMS+ Japan and 4th AMMS+ Japan meetings emphasized the participation of physical education teachers, coaches and women in sports in line with the ASEAN-Japan Cooperation Programme.
The delegates presented complementary discussions on the promotion of sports for people with disabilities and the anti-doping campaign and capacity building.
In the afternoon, the representative of China, on behalf of the member countries, spoke about the issues related to the ASEAN-China cooperation under the ASEAN-China Action Plan 2021-2025 for the development and success of traditional sports. He discussed the presentations of the 1st AMMS+ China meeting and pointed out that the proposal is continuing with the comments of the member countries.
According to the meeting, Viet Nam will be the host country in 2024-2025. The general presentations of the ASEAN representatives were also coordinated during the meeting. — MNA/KZL
