Myanmar joins online 3rd ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit

Laos hosted the third ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit via videoconferencing yesterday, and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win, the director-general of the Social Welfare Department, member of ACW Focal Point and AWPR and relevant officials joined virtually.
ASEAN leaders exchanged views during the event themed “Strengthening Care Economy and Resilience Towards ASEAN Community Post-2025”.
During the Plenary Session, the Union minister highlighted the nation’s social protection strategic plan the ministry drafted in 2014 in line with ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Social Protection, ASEAN Strategic Framework and Plan of Action for Social Welfare, cash assistance for pregnant women and mothers of children up to two years of age, social pension starting from the 2017-2018 financial year, K14 billion cash assistance for 290,000 in the 2023-2024 financial year under cash assistance plan for pregnant women and mother of children up to two years of age, and K16 billion for 160,000 people under social pension project.
He also mentioned the establishment of day-care centres for the aged, training courses for taking care of the aged and cash assistance for organizations, 24-hour hotlines to report violence against women established in 2016, ECCD-related measures, the opening of 2,700 pre-primary schools and 535 child-care day centres across the nation, and the Strategic Plan of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2022-2027) of the country.
Myanmar’s Social Welfare Department won the Care Economy Award during the event.
