Myanmar marks 2024 World First Aid Day

Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win presents the trophy to the winning states and regions at yesterday’s event.

The 2024 World First Aid Day ceremony was held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win said the Myanmar Red Cross Society provides first aid services to injured people based on humanitarian grounds and also participates in social assistance, recuse works amid natural disasters, healthcare services, operating blood donation and ambulances for emergency patients, COVID-19 prevention measures and responses to MOCHA.
Moreover, the Union minister highlighted its active participation in conducting awareness campaigns regarding the severe diarrhoea that broke out in Yangon and other areas, providing medicines, and also in preventive measures against Mpox.
He then urged the members of the Myanmar Red Cross Society to share the first aid techniques with the public, experiences received from the competition in respective regions and states and work with the relevant ministries for every person.
Then, Myanmar Red Cross Society President Prof Dr Myo Nyunt clarified the purpose of the ceremony. Head of Myanmar Delegation Ms Nadia Christine Khoury of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), First Aid and Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Delegate Mr Andrew Mok Yuan Min of the International Committee of the Red Cross made remarks respectively.
During the awarding ceremony, the Union minister and relevant officials presented awards to the winners of the first aid contest (solo men) and trophies to prize-winning regions and states.
Next, the Union minister and party observed the displayed materials marking the 2024 World First Aid Day.
There are 191 member states of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and World First Aid Day is celebrated on the second Saturday in September every year. Myanmar Red Cross Society celebrated in 2003, and now it has reached 22nd events, and the theme of this year is “First Aid and Sports Ready, Set, Respond”. — MNA/KTZH
