Ayeyawdy United defeated current champion of the MPT Myanmar National League, Shan United, 1-0 during the Week-4 match of MNL played at the Kyauk Taing Stadium in Pathein yesterday.
The win for Ayeyawady United was mostly dependent upon foreign player Akwa Raphael Success.
The match was entertaining, as both teams are Myanmar National League giants, and the teams played very aggressively from the kick-off.
The match was scoreless in the first half, as both teams could not convert multiple opportunities into goals.
Ayeyawady United changed tactics in the second half in the striking position, which resulted in the first score of the match.
At the 57-minute mark, Akwa Raphael Success scored the first and winning goal for Ayeyarwady United, with a pass through multiple Shan United defenders.
For the rest of the match, Ayeyawady United’s defenders blocked every scoring opportunity by Shan United and ended the match with a single goal.
Following the win, Ayeyawady United has chalked up three consecutive wins and could end their lost history in the previous Myanmar National League season final match against Shan United.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
