Myanmar parliamentary union’s Meeting 1/2017 was held at 10 am yesterday at the meeting room of Zambu Thiri Hall in the Hluttaw Premises, Nay Pyi Taw.
At the meeting, Mahn Win Khaing Than, Speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and chairman of the Myanmar parliamentary union commented on the approval of office staff hiring regional and state Hluttaws.
“In the previous meeting, it was decided to open the Offices of Region and State Hluttaws separately with Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Office designated as the mother organisation. The decision was submitted in accord with the procedures, and it was approved at the meeting 18/2016 of the Union Government, held on 22 December, 2016 and the permission was granted on 5 January, 2017. Thus, Region and State Hluttaws will have rights to separately appoint their office staff. I am very pleased with this,” Mahn Win Khaing Than said.
In response, U Win Myint, Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw and vice-chairman of the Myanmar parliamentary union said: “Hluttaws are principal images of Democracy. Provided that there were no conveniences in performing Hluttaw affairs, it cannot be assumed to be successful. For democratic movement to be smooth, Hluttaw Office staff members are required to abide by the laws on Civil Service, rules and regulations. Head of Hluttaw and departmental heads as well must be well versed in ethics and discipline, and need to be well equipped with management skills and efficiency in administration. And it needs to improve individual abilities and qualifications in performing checks and balances over other entities.”
After that, U Aye Tha Aung, Deputy Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and secretary of the Myanmar parliamentary union’s clarified decisions of the Meeting 4/2016 and situations on performances including discussions in the preliminary meetings, followed by respective discussions of chairmen and officials from Region and State Hluttaws and those present at the meeting.
