Myanmar Sepak Takraw team returns from Thai King’s Cup with medals

The Myanmar Sepak Takraw team returned to Yangon on the night of 9 September, following their impressive performance at the 37th Thai King’s Cup held in Thailand from 1 to 8 September.
The team clinched one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals. The team was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Director-General U Kyaw Zin Moe from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the principal of Yangon Institute of Sports and Physical Education, and officials from the Myanmar Sepak Takraw Federation, along with family members.
The Myanmar team, consisting of six coaches, 12 male players, and 11 female players, competed in various categories, including Team, Quadrant, Mixed Regu, and Mixed Quadrant for men, as well as Team, Quadrant, and Hoop for women. The team secured one gold in the Men’s Mixed Regu, one silver in the Women’s Hoop event, and three bronze medals in the Mixed Quadrant event and the Men’s team and Women’s team events.
The Thai King’s Cup saw participants from 28 countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Myanmar, South Korea, Japan, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, India, the USA, Sri Lanka, Iran, Oman, Australia, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Argentina, Switzerland, East Timor, Poland, Iraq, Italy, and Chinese Taipei. Historically, Thailand and Malaysia have been dominant in the competition, with Myanmar, South Korea, and Vietnam emerging as increasingly strong contenders.
In the 2023 Thai King’s Cup, the Myanmar Sepak Takraw team achieved three silver and three bronze medals. — MNA/KZL
