Myanmar team included in Group B of Paris Olympic Women’s 1st-round Qualifiers

The lot-drawing ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympic Women’s Asian Zone first-round Qualifiers was held in Malaysia on 12 January, and the Myanmar team went into Group B.
The first-round qualifiers will be held in seven groups, with 26 teams divided into four groups of five and two groups of three.
According to the qualification format, only the top teams from the seven groups will be allowed to participate in the second-round qualifiers.
Group A sees Uzbekistan, Jordan, Timor-Leste, and Bhutan while Group B includes Myanmar, Iran, Bangladesh, and Maldives.
Meanwhile, Viet Nam is placed in Group C with Nepal, Palestine, and Afghanistan and Thailand are in Group D with Mongolia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.
Group E features the Philippines, Hong Kong, Tajikistan, and Pakistan, and Group F consists of China Taipei, Indonesia, and Lebanon.
India, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan are falling into Group G.
The first group matches will be held from 3 to 11 April 2023. Asian powerhouses such as Japan, North Korea, Australia, China and South Korean teams will compete from the second qualifiers and will face against seven best teams from the first-round qualifiers.
The second-round qualifiers will be divided into three groups of four teams, and only the top team from each of the three groups and the best three second-placed teams will be allowed to participate in the third-round qualifiers.
The Myanmar women’s national team has been training since December for the international competitions to be completed in 2023, including the Paris Olympic qualifiers, and is handled by Daw Thet Thet Win as the head coach.
The Paris Olympic qualifiers are also the first international competition to be held this year for team Myanmar. — Ko Nyi Lay/ KZL
