Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bicycle Rally flagged off in Kawthoung

The opening ceremony of the 5th Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bicycle Rally(Kawthoung-Ranong) was held in front of the clock tower inthe Annawa ward of Kawthoung Town on 23 December.
The opening ceremony was attended by the deputy district administrators from Kawthoung and Ranong, officials from the Tourism and Sports Affairs Department of both countries, officials from Tourism Entrepreneurs Associations of the two countries, officials from Kawthoung and Ranong Chambers of Commerce, officials from Kawthoung district’s related departments, staff from the Grand Andaman Hotel and PTTEP company, cyclists from Ranong Province of Thailand’s Bicycle Association, cyclists from Myanmar’s Myeik and Kawthoung districts, and members of civil society organizations.
Ranong Province’s Deputy District Administrator, Mr. Poltip Poygdri, and Kawthoung District’s Deputy District Administrator, U Khin Thein Maung,delivered speeches at the ceremony. Afterwards, Mr. Poltip Poygdri presented five bicycles to U Khin Thein Maung to promote the sport.
Then, officials from both countries formally opened the rally. A total of 656 cyclists from both the countries participated in the rally, riding 27 kilometers through the Kawthoung Town.The cyclists started the rally in front of the clock tower. On their way back, they visited two Buddhist temples before the Thai cyclists returned home.
This is the fifth tour which aims to strengthen the friendship between the ASEAN countries, promote travel on the borders, and develop border trade. The Friendship Cycling Association also donated two monasteries and an orphanage at the ceremony.
