Myanmar, Thailand discuss return of migrant workers

A joint working committee between Myanmar and Thailand held a second meeting in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday in preparation for repatriation of Myanmar migrant workers who want to return home on their own volition from Thailand.
At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views and discussed plans for bilateral cooperation in return of Myanmar migrant workers in October for the third time.
It was attended from Myanmar led by U Myint Thu, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied with U Myo Myint Than Ambassador of Myanmar to Thailand, and officials from Consular and Legal Affairs Department and International Organizations and Economic Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Border Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, governments of Yangon Region, Bago Region, Sagaing Region, Kayin State and Kayah State while the delegation of Thailand was led by Ms. Busaya Mathelin, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives of ministries concerned from
Thailand.
The two sides also discussed preparation for scrutinizing the migrant workers who said to be from Myanmar and want to return home of their
own volition and cooperation between the two countries for smooth repatriation.
The Myanmar side also discussed the Case Management Team sent to Thailand to assist in national citizenship scrutinizing work and social affairs of the migrant workers.
