Myanmar, WB to conduct Myanmar Poverty and Living Conditions Survey


Myanmar plans to reduce a half of poverty rate for those who earn less than 2 US dollars of daily income from 1990 to 2015, Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Daw Lei Lei Thein told the ceremony to introduce Myanmar Poverty and Living Conditions Survey (MPLCS), jointly organized by Ministry of NPED and World Bank, at the ministry, here, on Tuesday.
She noted that the ministry and UNDP cooperated in survey on Integrated Households Living Condition Assessment-IHLCA-I and II in 2009-2010 and could collect 32% and 26% of poverty rate in the nation. The deputy minister said that the World Bank will conduct the pilot survey for the poverty rate. Depending on the pilot survey, the ministry and WB will conduct the IHLCA-III. WB Resident Representative Mr Abdolaye Seck explained ways to conduct the Myanmar Poverty and Living Conditions Survey and survey period.
The survey will be conducted at 3,648 households from 203 townships and 16 towns in regions and states from 20 January to 10 April 2015.
