Nanttharmyay Thanaka warehouse shuts down for two weeks in Monywa District

Nanttharmyay Thanaka warehouse was closed down for two weeks from 10 July in Ayadaw town of Monywa District, Sagaing Region, said U Aung Win, secretary of Myanmar Thanaka Planters and Producers Association.
Thanaka, a yellowish-white cosmetic paste made from ground bark, is a natural cosmetic in Myanmar.
“The COVID-19 induced low demand resulted in the shutdown of the warehouse. Thanaka is rarely traded amid the COVID surge and transportation difficulties”, said U Aung Win.
This Thanaka warehouse was opened in July 2020 under the Consumer Affairs Department of Ayadaw town. Thanaka market is sluggish amid the COVID-19 crisis. The price is stable.
“Thanaka exports to Bangkok have come to a halt. The COVID-19 pandemic triggered the domestic production slowdown”, a producer from Ayadaw Township pointed out.
Thanaka produced by Ayadaw Township were earlier sent to wholesale depots in Pakokku, Yesagyo, Bago and Kyonpyaw towns. The demand from the Thanaka value chain is quite low in the meantime. There are nearly 200,000 acres of Thanaka in Sagaing Region and Ayadaw Township has over 100,000 acres. — Lu Lay/GNLM
