Nationwide crackdown on illicit trading leads to seizures worth millions

Under the oversight of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, measures are being enforced nationwide against illicit trading.
During inspections on 25 May, Customs teams seized two types of goods worth K16.158 million, including 1,800 kilogrammes of carbon stick from China without an Import Licence, from a container at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint. This enforcement was conducted in accordance with Customs procedures.
On 27 and 29 May, Customs teams seized 92,500 kilogrammes of Foodstuff Malt Extract Cereal (from Vietnam) worth K275.835 million, which were abandoned by a company at the Bonded warehouse at the Ywathagyi Dry Port. Additionally, an unregistered Nissan March (valued at K3 million) was seized in Mayangon township, and a Nissan Diesel truck (valued at K40 million) carrying 2,760 gallons of illegal premium diesel was intercepted at the Shwegyin checkpoint. The action was taken under Customs procedures, the Export and Import Law, and the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law.
Also, on 29 May, combined teams seized an unregistered Hijet (valued at K8 million) at the Yadanabon Bridge combined checkpoint in Sagaing township and an unregistered Subaru Samber (valued at K8 million) at the Kantalu combined checkpoint. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported seven arrests on 25, 27, and 29 May, with an estimated value of K381 million. — MNA/MKKS
