Natural disaster management measures cannot be taken by a single person or organization but through collaborative efforts: Vice-Senior General

Firm organizational setup, proper work system and harmonious coordination are essential in natural disaster management, said Chairman of the National Natural Disaster Management Committee Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win at the meeting 1/2022 of the management committee at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement yesterday afternoon.
Speaking at the meeting, the Vice-Senior General stressed the need to make preparations with the best arrangement to respond to natural disasters with the strength of human resources by forecasting the possibilities of disasters depending on seasons and regions.
A firm organizational setup, proper work system and harmonious coordination are essential in natural disaster management. Different levels of the management systems must be set up with policies, action plans and SOP.
Preparations must be made for management committees, people and charity organizations to cooperate with each other in overcoming the challenges of natural disasters. Officials need to arrange the readiness of the forces to respond to natural disasters with the fulfilment of needs, and arrangements must be made for effectively applying the man and material powers.
The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is observed on 13 October every year for raising public awareness of minimizing loss and damage in natural disasters. The Vice-Senior General called for public participation in the disaster risk reduction measures by successfully holding the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The standing order 2009 was issued for natural disaster management based on experiences in the 2008 Nargis cyclonic storm. Now, the order was revised in line with the management system and technological development.
The standing order on natural disaster management for 2022 was drafted with remarks from relevant committees and the ministry. Work committees and management committees are to scrutinize natural disaster prevention plans in line with the 2022 standing order.
As measures on natural disaster management cannot be taken by a single person or organization but through collaborative efforts, all need to connect with one another for duty assignments and cooperation.
Vice-Chairman of the management committee Union Ministers Lt-Gen Soe Htut and Dr Thet Thet Khine and officials explained measures on disaster risk reduction management, the accomplishment of the meeting minutes and compilation of the draft standard order, and spending of the management fund.
