People commemorated 73rd Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day laying flower wreaths at the Bogyoke Aung San Bronze Statue in Thabyaygon Ward on Pyinmana-Taungnyo Road in Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman Dr Myo Aung and officials, Hluttaw representatives, social organizations’ officials, staff and ordinary people attended the martyrs’ day celebration that began at 8am.
Upon the commemoration, Member of Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee U Min Thu said: “This is the first ceremony paying tributes to martyrs by Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. The ceremony is organized in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines.”
The purpose of the ceremony is to recollect the gratitude, attitude, and strength of the martyrs who gave their lives for Myanmar’s Independence by the present and future youths and the public. Other townships across the country also organized the martyrs’ day ceremony at Bogyoke parks and Bogyoke statues and offered ‘soon’ (day meal) to Members of Sangha in memory of Bogyoke Aung San and martyred leaders. “This is not a crowded event, and it is celebrated in accordance with social distancing rules because of COVID-19,” he added. Zabuthiri Township’s U Kyaw Swar Win said: “Only few people came to pay tributes to martyrs because of COVID-19. The spirit and power of the martyrs are an example to next generation.” “I would like to urge people to try hard with goodwill for the country’s development in accordance with Bogyoke’s instructions,” he added. Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee Member U Min Thu, Hluttaw representatives, social organizations’ chairpersons and officials, staff and people observed a two-minute silence sounding sirens in memory of martyrs who gave their lives for Myanmar’s Independence at 10:37am when Bogyoke Aung San and martyred leaders were assassinated.—Hein Min Soe (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
