Myanmar hosted the 27th Meeting of the ASEAN-China Joint Working Group on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (JWG-DOC) in Nay Pyi Taw from 27 February to 28 February 2019 and the Meeting was attended by Officials from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam, the People’s Republic of China and the ASEAN Secretariat.
The Meeting discussed the Single Draft COC Negotiating Text, exchanged views on the development in the South China Sea and acknowledged the progress in the implementation of the DOC and the negotiations of the COC.
The Meeting also reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, security and stability and recognized the benefits of having the South China Sea as a sea of peace, stability and prosperity.
U Hau Khan Sum, Director-General of the ASEAN Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted a Welcome Dinner to the Delegations of 27th JWG-DOC at M Gallery Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw on the evening of 27th February 2019.
It is learnt that the 28th JWG-DOC will be held back to back with 17th SOM-DOC in China in May 2019.
