Nearly 90 percent of Lapadaungtaung copper mine project investigation commission’s report implemented, committee says

Of 42 points, 37 that account for 88.10 percent of the report had been implemented, said Union Minister at President Office U Hla Tun at a meeting of the committee that implements the report of the investigation commission for Latpadaungtaung Copper mine project meeting on Friday.
Monitoring and evaluation process for environmental matters, compensation and assistance to be paid to those who have still remained to receive compensation and assistance and creation of small and medium-sized businesses are included in the remaining five points, he said.
The remaining works will be carried out under close supervision of the Joint Management Committee-JMC which will also monitor the project, he added.   The Union minister who led the committee called on the JMC to follow the environmental and social impact assessments while monitoring the project and coordinating with CSD representatives for regional development. He also stressed the need of achieving ISO certificates within schedule.
Next, Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Tha Aye who is also the vice-chairman of the committee, Union Minister U Soe Win, Union Minister U Myint Aung and Union Minister U Win Tun who are committee members elaborated on work progress.
Then, JMC Chairman Maj-Gen Zar Ni Win, managing director the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited, made a presentation of administrative measures to be taken for the success of the project.
Before the committee chairman’s concluding remarks, those present  including officials from Myanmar Wanbao Company reported their respective matters.
