A veranda of five-storey apartment building collapsed in Sangyaung Township, Yangon, yesterday evening, and members of Fire Services Department and rescue teams evacuated the residents.

“We noticed some concrete particles dropped from the upper level of apartment, and bigger concrete solids fell down before the collapse tonight,” said a woman living on the first floor of that building.

The damages occurred at the ceiling, front veranda and façade of the top floor.
Three family members were taken out from this apartment by the rescue members.

Regarding the incident, Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe told the Myanmar News Agency that strength of the building has declined, and construction history of this building will also be investigated.

He added relevant organizations will help the residents with their temporary accommodation and their belongings and household items will be taken out from that building.—Zaw Gyi (Translated by Aung Khin)
