A total of 1,025,503 foreign visitors came to Myanmar over ten months in 2023, according to the data from the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
Chinese travellers topped among the visitors from January to the end of October, followed by Thais and Koreans as the second and third largest groups of foreigners, the data showed.
The most popular destinations include many famous sites in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Bago regions, as well as Mon state.
” Among the foreign visitors coming to Myanmar, the Chinese, who usually come on business, mostly go to Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay. Thais often go to the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda and other prominent destinations in Yangon, Mandalay and Bago regions,” said a ministry official.
To attract more tourists, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, in addition to comprehensive schemes such as creating new destinations in the respective region and state, upgrading the existing tourist areas, and conducting tourism promotion activities, has also made the arrangements for easy and hassle-free transportation, the official added.
