Onion wholesale price jumps to K2,100 per viss

A total of 156,000 visses of onions flooded the Bayintnaung market in Yangon and the depot opening price was K2,100 per viss on 4 May.
The prices of Seikphyu onions, Monywa onions, and Pakokku onions ranged between K1,700 and K2,100 per viss, depending on the quality.
After the weekends, the price of large-sized onions increased by around K500 per viss. In addition, 22,500 visses of onions entered the Seikphyu market with the highest price on 4 May.
A total of 5,000 visses of onions entered the Pakokku market on 3 May for K1,700 per viss. Then, the next day, it gradually rose to 66,990 visses with the highest rate of K2,000 per viss, according to the market data.
On 4 May this year, the price of onions was up threefold compared to the same period of the previous year. Thus, the onion growers are enjoying the benefit of a price increase this year. — TWA/CT
