The opening ceremony on Immense Spectrum ASEAN Festival of Artistes with Disability was held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre (2) here Wednesday.
The ceremony was attended by union ministers, deputy ministers, parliamentarians, departmental heads, diplomats, artists with disability from ASEAN and Japan, UN officials and representatives of NGOs, artists and guest.
The artistes with disability performed with the theme song of ASEAN Disability Art Festival 2014.
At the ceremony, Union Minister for Social Welfares, Relief and Resettlement Dr Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin said that conservative views on the disabled should be removed, with the consideration on the welfares of the disabled as universal concern. Yohei Sasakawa, chairman of Nippon Foundation explained the purpose of organizing of the festival.
Later, the hearing-disabled performed Bagan cultural dance and modern Khmer wheel-chair dance, while the hearing-disabled artistes from the Nippon Taiko Foundation performed Japan traditional drum dance.
Then artistes with disability from ASEAN countries performed traditional dances and played music. The closing ceremony of the festival will be held at Myoma Playground in Yangon on 7 December.
