Over 500 primary school teachers performing duties in Maungtaw District

According to U Ohn Myint, head of education department, Maungtaw district, there are 520 primary school teachers (male) in Maungtaw and Buthidaung townships, Maungtaw district—279 male monthly-paid daily wagers teachers under 35, 241 male similar teachers.
After issuing an instruction by the Rakhine State Cabinet that only male primary teachers must be appointed in Maungtaw district, as the first phase, primary teachers serving in remote areas in Buthidaung and Maungtaw townships from other townships had been transferred to the places adjacent to their townships. As the second phase, female teachers serving in remote schools out of local teachers in Buthidaung and Maungtaw townships had been transferred to the nearest schools.
U Than Pe, a post-primary teacher of Phar Wut Chaung village-tract said, “It is convenient for us to teach in Phar Wut Chaung as the government arranged for lodging and transport. As for teaching, we found it difficult a little bit regarding language barrier. I assumed that it is a very good idea to have appointed male teachers in this region. And I am proud of being a teacher.”
There are 408 schools altogether in Maungtaw district—primary, middle and high schools including 2 monastic academic schools.  In Maungtaw district, there were 341 who passed the matriculation out of 3054 candidates in the academic year 2016-2017—11.17% pass rates, it was learnt.—A1 Soe, Myo Thu Hein
